Hungary will not allow duty-free grain imports from Ukraine and will keep a unilateral ban in force if the EU does not resolve this issue.
According to the Report, this decision was announced by the country’s Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy after a meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels.
“Hungary insists that the issue of trade in cereals and oilseeds be resolved through an autonomous trade liberalisation measure,” Nagy said in a statement posted on the Agriculture Ministry’s website.
“Hungary will reject amendments to the regulation as long as cereals and oilseeds are not subject to it,” the statement said.
“If the issue of trade in these products is not resolved, the Hungarian government will maintain its ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the country,” the minister warned.
The Minister recalled that duty-free trade of Ukrainian goods at dumped prices on the Hungarian market causes serious damage to local farms.
